Carolyn Schief is a designer with the rare ability to create something new to fashion on a consistent basis. She grew up as the middle child of five sisters from a small town in Michigan, where there was one closet packed with various items to choose from in the morning. First come first served. There has been a sisterhood understanding of “If it looks better on you, you can have it.” This no doubt shot Carolyn’s creativity from natural talent to fashion survival.

After high school, she went from survival to honored professional by taking this talent through fashion school. With her eye for design and detail, she has repeatedly caught the attention of designers throughout the US creating men’s wear, undergarments, and what is now her main focus; leather purses, bags and other high quality leather goods.

Many of her more than15 years of dedicated leather work and fashion creations were spent implementing designs as the Head Sample Maker for Shinola Detroit’s leather goods. Shinola celebrated her precision and skill by flying her internationally to demonstrate the fabrication of their high quality bags. She has since decided to shift into her own designs, creating the Curzlyn line from her apartment, turned design studio, in the New Center neighborhood of Detroit.
